Word, or gossip, has it that the famous Britain couple’s reasons for moving to LA, the city of sin in the US, may be the strong friendship that has developed between the couple (more so Victoria) and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who are devout scientologists. Some sources are supposedly saying the Victoria has strong designs on the US, more specifically she is wanting to conquer the US with a new fashion line. And who better to do that than the “fashion” icon herself.
Well, I’m not so sure about some of those styles she wears that bare her breasts with it seems like no bra, but whatever. Speaking of Posh Spice, it seems she may have gotten a little lip plumping done lately, seems she’s sporting an Angelina-ish pout lately. I’m not sure I like this woman, she seems like she just can’t get enough! Hmm…..

This was another show, like Dexter, that I didn’t know if I wanted to really get into, because of its macabre content and potential to be depressing, even though the way shows like that are done are meant to be black humor. I tried Six Feet Under out because I got bored one day on the weekend and saw that HBO On Demand had the first six shows available for viewing, so I watched the first episode.
Was it dark? Sure. But it was also funny, well acted, and original, with interesting, if not eccentric and possibly unlikeable characters. Six Feet Under centers on an unusual family that has their own funeral business. Michael C Hall, who I mentioned in the last review about the new Showtime show “Dexter”, plays the central character, the brother who holds the fort down and has a level head on his shoulders (kind of a stretch from his Dexter character, but not too much, because he’s pretty serious and not very full of physical expression).
The first ten to fifteen minutes of the pilot episode for Six Feet Under will reel pretty much anyone in, and you’ll see what I mean if you watch it. Something unexpected happens to a character who you are lead to believe will play a central role in the series, and you get to know some of the other characters pretty well in a relatively short amount of time as you get a glimpse into serendipitous moments that just so happen to occur for them at a very inopportune time.
In short, if you can handle a little bit of macabre humor and you like shows that are akin to a Twin Peaks ensemble of eccentricity, you will like Six Feet Under. I have a hunch the plots will get very interesting in this show which is now off the air….

If you don’t have an appreciation for a dark sense of humor, stay away from the new Showtime series this season called “Dexter”. The show Dexter is about a man named Dexter, who is a serial killer. But there is a catch. Dexter is a serial killer who only preys on other serial killers. Dexter, played by Michael C Hall, who also played one of the main characters in the critically acclaimed HBO series “Six Feet Under” and also did brief stints in the other HBO drama “Oz”, is a sociopath who we somehow root for, although I’m still not sure how they played that trick on us.
He was adopted along with his adopted sister by a cop dad who realizes early on through backflashes that occur almost every episode that Dexter is not a normal kid, and that he actually demonstrates all the early signs of becoming a serial killer. He doesn’t seem to really experience any real emotions and he lacks compassion, empathy and sympathy. In other words, he really lacks all human emotion and thrills at the thought of killing living beings, including animals.
Dexter’s father helps Dexter blend in and act like a normal person, but he helps Dexter realize that he must channel his killing instincts to do some sort of good in this world. In other words, his father coaches him to seek out other people who are evil and kill them to feed his urge to kill. What ensues is an interesting story about a mix of characters in Miami Florida, and an addictive show that you almost feel guilty watching because of its dark subject matter. I’d recommend it, if you can handle this sort of thing.

I recently watched the Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn flick “The Breakup” where they hooked up onset, and I have to say, I loved it! I like Vince and Jen’s acting style in this movie, and I think they both acted in a sincere and honest way. The movie is about a couple, who are polar opposites in so many ways, as we can say for a lot of couples in this world.
Jen is the perfectionist, always cleaning, making dinner, and cleaning up after Vince’s sloppy character who prefers to play video games and watch sports when he gets home instead of helping with cleaning and cooking (Gee, does this sound familiar ladies?)
Jen’s character gets fed up with Vince’s apparent lack of recognition and lack of wanting to do things for her in appreciation, and breaks up with him in a rage. She thinks that he will see the err of his ways and beg to be taken back and will also try to change. But what Vince does is basically start a “War of the Roses” since neither of them will leave the condo they share.
There are a lot of good one liners in this movie, mostly by Vince, who as usual adds a lot of comic flare to the movie, and Jen plays an excellent woman who just wants to be appreciated, and she also does a good job at making you feel for her character.
This was where I disagreed with a lot of the reviews I read which said both characters were not sympathetic. I think they were, they just showed that everyone is bull headed sometimes, and not everyone absolutely belongs together and would complement one another.
That said, I give this movie high marks. I think couples watching this movie will be able to compare themselves and their relationship to this movie in one way or even in many ways. I know I myself drew a lot of comparisons to my own relationship!

OK, I hate to do this to one of my favorite directors, M Night Shamalyan, but I have to or else I’d be lying. “Lady in the Water” was M Night’s worst movie, by far. I’m a fan of Sixth Sense, The Village, and his other bigger movies, but this one really was a far reach to try to like.
The movie is basically a pure fantasy about a girl, a nymph, played by the ethereal looking Bryce Dallas Howard (Ron Howard’s daughter), who does an ok job at her role, but is given little to work with through a weak and far fetched script that might have done better if it took place in another world, not earth, amongst humans.
M Night usually does well with the far fetched, but this one was all too hard to swallow, and even a little full of itself. My boyfriend stopped watching it halfway through, and he also usually likes his movies. I watched it all the way through, hoping for a payoff ending, which is what M Night is usually known for. He gives himself a larger role than usual in this film too, which is kind of ironic, since it is his worst work yet. To make a long story short, the story is about a nymph, called a Narf, who is dropped off on earth to help unite the people of the blue world with earth, since they have been estranged since the dark ages.
She must meet a certain person within the day, and then will be allowed to return to the Blue World once she and this person have met, where she will be carried off by some mythical eagle (I know, I feel ridiculous even describing this film). Gosh, you know what. You’d have to see it, it’s actually too hard to explain. My grade for this movie is a solid D minus. Not quite an F.

Well, after much anticipation and seeming like it was going back and forth whether or not to do it between Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, it is now official that the shooting of the newest Indiana Jones installment (the fourth in the series), will beging in 2007. I’m a huge fan of the original series of 3 Indiana Jones movies, and I was thrilled to learn that Harrison Ford will be starring in #4 as well, as I could not imagine anyone else pulling off this role, which he plays so perfectly.
He and Spielberg reportedly just finished the script and Lucas is confident that this film will be the best Indiana Jones film yet. The script is still a mystery, but Lucas did say it’s a lot of character development and there will be some interesting mysteries involved too (well, this sounds a lot like the last installment, but whatever).
Harrison Ford is now 64 years old (I can’t believe it, he still looks pretty young to me, but then again, go back to the original Indiana Jones, and you’ll see that he does look like he’s aged a bit, albeit very gracefully - he’s so handsome). Raider’s of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and the Holy Grail will be followed by this latest movie. It has a lot to live up to (of course, discounting Temple of Doom, my least favorite).
