“The Break Up” Review
January 10th, 2007I recently watched the Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn flick “The Breakup” where they hooked up onset, and I have to say, I loved it! I like Vince and Jen’s acting style in this movie, and I think they both acted in a sincere and honest way. The movie is about a couple, who are polar opposites in so many ways, as we can say for a lot of couples in this world.
Jen is the perfectionist, always cleaning, making dinner, and cleaning up after Vince’s sloppy character who prefers to play video games and watch sports when he gets home instead of helping with cleaning and cooking (Gee, does this sound familiar ladies?)
Jen’s character gets fed up with Vince’s apparent lack of recognition and lack of wanting to do things for her in appreciation, and breaks up with him in a rage. She thinks that he will see the err of his ways and beg to be taken back and will also try to change. But what Vince does is basically start a “War of the Roses” since neither of them will leave the condo they share.
There are a lot of good one liners in this movie, mostly by Vince, who as usual adds a lot of comic flare to the movie, and Jen plays an excellent woman who just wants to be appreciated, and she also does a good job at making you feel for her character.
This was where I disagreed with a lot of the reviews I read which said both characters were not sympathetic. I think they were, they just showed that everyone is bull headed sometimes, and not everyone absolutely belongs together and would complement one another.
That said, I give this movie high marks. I think couples watching this movie will be able to compare themselves and their relationship to this movie in one way or even in many ways. I know I myself drew a lot of comparisons to my own relationship!
