“The Shield” Loses It’s Edge for Me
May 23rd, 2007OK, I’m officially over the tv show about good cop/bad cop Vick Mackie, The Shield. Is it just me, or is this season loaded with unnecessary machismo and some over the top killings as well as over the top machoness? The type of machismo I’m talking about is best described in one particularly cheesy scene where Vick and the boys shoot bullets into Lem’s grave. And yes,I’m still mad that Lem was killed off on that show, if you ask me, he was the saving grace of that show, and it shows now that he’s gone the show’s gone down the toilet.
This season is really pretty much picking up where the last one left off, just a few days after Lem was killed and his funeral had already taken place. Vick is mad as hell that Lem was killed, and seems hell bent on catching who he thinks set up his killing, although it was really Shane, the idiot who killed him with a grenade because he thought he was going to give the boys up.
Shane is battling with guilt and seems to have a death wish for himself, especially after he finds out that Lem had no intention of selling the boys out to get off easier himself. But it doesn’t make him any more likeable if you ask me. He goes on a self destruction kick, volunteering for dangerous assignments, and makes viewers wonder if he just wants to end it all, well that and one scene showing him caressing a gun and contemplating suicide. But of course, we couldn’t be so lucky.
Even Vick is getting on my nerves with his obsession to get Lem’s killer. He seems to be overacting this season, and if I see one more determined, yet mad look on his face, or see him yell about Lem not breathing again, I’m going to vomit. This show needs to be cancelled. Of course, people tell me since I’m behind on the season, I’ll like the newest developments, so I might change my mind, but I doubt it!
