Well, we saw a movie last night that was made in 2001 which starred several very talented young stars whom I haven’t seen do too much since then. It was very well made and directed, but the problem was it was too realistic, it was depressing to watch. The movie is based on a true story about a group of degenerate drug addict kids in Southern Florida who concoct a half cocked plan to kill another kid in the group who supposedly bullies everyone, especially his best friend Marty Puccio.
The movie is extremely sexual in its content and very explicit, so beware if you have any young people watching it. I’d say there are way to many sex scenes that explicity show women’s and men’s nether regions, and not in the most flattering way either. It’s truly gritty, earthy film making, and although that’s what makes it realistic, that’s what makes you squeam in your seat as these idiots concoct the murder plan.
Right up until the moment the murder is actually carried out, I found myself full of tension for how the murder was going to go down, as the director foreshadows some serious flaws in the plan, and we know from the get go that the victim is not going to be killed easily or quickly with a bunch of baffoons on drugs at the helm of his demise.
The actual murder scene is well directed and acted, it basically just shows a bunch of scared kids carrying out a gruesome murder, and it also shows the sociopathic behavior of the whole bunch, who seem only to be worried about immediately blaming eachother and taking the blame off themselves for taking someone’s life. They also pretty much sell eachother out and botch the whole cover up from the get go.
“Bully” is a good movie with excellent performances by Nick Stahl, Rachel Miner and the very talented Brad Renfro, as in well executed and acted, but if you don’t want to come away from a movie with a heavy feeling and loathing for the lower echelons of the human race, skip “Bully” and rent something a little lighter on the heart and soul.

We have recently moved, and before when we lived in our apartment, we had purchased digital cable from our landline cable company, Time Warner. We decided that we would go with one of the dish network deals when we signed up with our local Dish Network Promotions dealer, which happens to be DirecTV, and we couldn’t be happier with the service, the user interface, and the price. If you are moving and thinking about switching to a satellite dish service instead of traditional cable, I’d recommend looking into it, because so far we do not have any complaints.
When we call, we get good service and fast resolution, and we have had no problems with the dish itself. When the guy came out to install the satellite dish, he took his time and made sure he found a spot that it would not be an eye sore, and took care to mount it correctly and securely. Heck, he even offered to clean up the cables he left after he cut them to fit our satellite rig, but I ended up cleaning them because I felt bad he had to go up on our roof!
He told us all about how to use the interface, record TV shows with the DVR, which I think is very user friendly, even for me, who happens to be somewhat of a lunkhead when I’m trying to learn new TV remote controls or how to do anything new when it comes to cable or television. You can find some great dish network offers nowadays that make it well worth your time if you’re thinking of switching or are moving to a new area.
Our service has been great so far, and we have no complaints. We have a great plan and plenty of channels to choose from, and I love the menu setup which is easy to read and easy to navigate. I think that is important to everyone, not just me!

I went into watching the remake of the original 70’s Wes Craven movie “The Hills Have Eyes” not knowing any background about the story at all or anything, and was pleasantly surprised at the good acting and suspense that was built up to the last half hour of this movie, which is when the “stuff” really starts to fly and people might not be surviving (don’t want to give anything away here:)
It has a pretty good cast too. Look closely, the guy who plays the dad (good actor too) is Buffalo Bill from Silence of the Lambs. It was so funny, because my boyfriend and I were trying to figure out why his voice seemed so familiar, because it’s such a distinct voice. He has aged a lot since then, but that voice is still unforgettable!
Also, the guy who plays Lynn’s husband (they just recently had a baby, Lynn is Brenda’s sister, who is played by Lost’s Emily De Raven who does a surprisingly decent job in this movie although I can’t stand her in Lost), is actually the guy who plays Pyro in the last X-Men movie. He is totally unrecognizable as well. Funny how actors can transform.
While The Hills Have Eyes has a lot of over the top gratuitous violence, it is actually a pretty well directed, well acted and well filmed movie for the most part. There were only a few lines the I didn’t like that were typical of horror movies now like “Who are You?” “Why are you doing this to us??” that they could have done without but other than that it was a well written and executed movie about mutants that were chased out of their old mining town when the government wanted to do experiments with nuclear bombs in the area. It’s a uniqe idea and something different that’s not really being done today at all. I liked it! Pleasantly surprised……
Next on the agenda, we’re re-watching some eighties horror flicks that we want to see if they hold up, so I’ll be reviewing those as they’re watched too.

I got very excited when Netflix recommended a slightly Indy movie that others with similar taste to mine liked. It is a relative unknown, but it is in one of my favorite genres, horror, and it was billed as a good werewolf horror movie that was about a group of militants sent in to a remote area to fight an enemy that they did not know turned out to be werewolves.
The reviews I read from fellow Netflixers was that it was a pleasant surprise, well acted and flowed well. It was none of the above. The dialogue, which was hard to understand Scottish, was actually very juvenile and just trying too hard to be vulgar “guy talk”. The soundtrack seems off from the movie, and the shooting is extremely freshman in its efforts.
We turned the movie off after fifteen minutes because we just knew that there was no saving grace at that point, and we actually laughed a few times when we shouldn’t have at the sheer ridiculousness of the dialogue. My advice, if you’re looking for a good werewolf movie, check out The Howling or Silver Bullet. I was hoping this would be a good new werewolf movie but was sorely mistaken.

After renting the Grey’s Anatomy series on Netflix, and watching it voraciously, I decided to rent another popular “woman’s” series and see if I ate it up as much as I ate up Grey’s Anatomy, savoring every bit of guilty-pleasure tv I could while the two seasons I rented lasted. So, I went ahead and rented the first DVD in the first season of the hit TV show starring Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Marsha Cross and Felicity Huffman. I have to say, the brightest part of this show is probably Felicity Huffman’s performance as a tired, busy housewife who seems to be the most fertile woman on the planet, and does not want any more kids to add to her already hectic, kid-driven lifestyle. Other than her, the rest of the actresses on this show just aren’t all that likeable, least of all Teri Hatcher’s character Susan, who plays a divorcee who’s husband left her for another woman.
Susan’s got one teenage girl, and a hunky new plumber that just moved into the neighborhood, who’s affections she’s trying to win in the first two episodes (I only got that far before returning it to Netflix). Oh, I forgot to mention the character Edie, who is played by the now very disturbing looking Nicollette Sheridan, whose face is pulled so tight from a facelift that it looks as though she’s permanently got messed up wide eyes.
I remember a time when she was considered beautiful, now I have a hard time looking at her onscreen, and it really takes away from the show. Marcia Cross turns in a decent performance as uptight homemaker and Mrs. Cleaver wannabe whose husband has had enough of her inability to express emotions and her seeming descent into robot-hood with her obsessive compulsive cleaning and home making. All in all, this series means well, but what it ends up being is a hokey story about people you ultimately could care less about.
Something is missing, and I’d say it’s not just in the story line, but in the characters themselves. There are some good moments that are actually funny, but they stop just short of being clever enough to really grab your attention and hold it. They aren’t likeable enough, and the set looks phoney, which also draws away from the story. I only watched two episodes and returned it for the HBO series Rome, which I’ll review when I get it and start watching it. I’ve heard it’s actually good, unlike the corny, cliche Desperate Housewives.
